Indonesia has several large nickel mines: Blok Sorowako in South Sulawesi covers 70,566 hectares and is managed by PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, producing high-grade nickel ore; Weda Bay Nickel in North Maluku covers 54,874 hectares, with shares mostly held by China's Tsingshan and France's Eramet; Pulau Gag in West Papua, with a work contract and IPPKH area totaling 13,739.25 hectares, is held by PT Gag Nickel; Tambang Kawasi in North Maluku covers approximately 2,247 hectares, with remaining nickel ore reserves of about 84.51 million tons as of the end of 2022; Deposit Asera in Southeast Sulawesi covers 2,000 hectares, with production of 23,720 tons in 2022 and reserves of 16 million tons; Tambang Bahoomoahi in Central Sulawesi covers approximately 1,400 hectares, with resource reserves of about 14 million tons and a potential of 13 million tons.
