Indonesian state-owned quality inspection company Sucofindo and Shanghai Hucheng Environmental Protection Technology have officially signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation. The two parties will jointly implement a waste-to-energy (WTE) project to promote the harmless treatment of urban waste and new energy development in Indonesia, support the upgrading of Indonesia's environmental protection industry and the achievement of carbon neutrality goals, marking a new stage in China-Indonesia green economic and trade cooperation. This bilateral cooperation focuses on the resource utilization of urban waste, with the core implementation of waste-to-energy (PSEL/WTE) projects. The project aims to address Indonesia's increasingly severe urban waste accumulation problem. Under the premise of strictly complying with environmental standards and ensuring sustainable ecological development, solid household waste will be converted into electrical energy, achieving multiple benefits of waste reduction, harmlessness, and resource utilization, providing a new solution for Indonesia's urban governance and energy transition.
The President of Sucofindo stated that the implementation of waste-to-energy projects does not rely solely on equipment and technology, but also requires technical solutions adapted to local waste characteristics, compliant engineering design, stable operation systems, strict exhaust emission control, and residue treatment mechanisms. At present, Indonesia's waste-to-energy industry still has many technical shortcomings and urgently needs professional and systematic technical and operational support. In this cooperation, Sucofindo will provide independent and objective quality inspection, testing, and certification services throughout the entire process, covering the full cycle of project construction, equipment operation and maintenance, and facility upkeep. Through full-process supervision, all project links will be ensured to meet quality, safety, technical, and environmental standards, guaranteeing the efficient, stable, and compliant operation of the waste-to-energy project.
This cooperation is also an important initiative for the two countries to help reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and advance the goal of zero carbon emissions. By improving the waste resource utilization system, greenhouse gas emissions from landfill can be effectively reduced, helping Indonesia build a sustainable green industrial ecosystem and steadily advance its carbon neutrality development goals. The President of Shanghai Hucheng Environmental Protection Technology pointed out that China and Indonesia have extremely strong complementarities in industrial resources, environmental protection technology, and market demand. This cooperation is an important layout for China's solid waste treatment technology to go global. In the future, the company will continue to export technology, project management, and intelligent operation and maintenance capabilities, deepen strategic cooperation in technology research and development, talent training, industry standard formulation, and project implementation, and continuously expand the China-Indonesia green cooperation landscape.
