To deepen practical cooperation between China and ASEAN in livestock technology and agricultural equipment, and to promote the joint construction of a China-Indonesia agricultural industry platform, a delegation of 3 teachers and 5 doctoral students from the College of Animal Science and Technology of China Agricultural University recently visited IPB University in Bogor and Singkawang for academic exchanges, industry research, and government-enterprise matchmaking activities. The president of the China Agricultural University Shanghai Alumni Association also joined. The delegation focused on three major areas: layer poultry, dairy cattle, and farming facilities and equipment, and held in-depth discussions with local industry associations, research institutions, and enterprise representatives. The delegation exchanged views on cutting-edge technologies in layer chicken breeding and genetic improvement, shared experiences on dairy cattle genomic selection and efficient farming models, and gave special presentations on intelligent equipment for modern chicken farms and precision environmental control technologies. In Jakarta and its surrounding areas, the delegation visited modern dairy farms and dairy processing enterprises to understand the current development of Indonesia's modern dairy industry. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on dairy cattle genetics and breeding, industry chain collaboration, commercialization of scientific research results, and university-enterprise cooperation.
At IPB University, Indonesia's top agricultural university, the delegation held talks with experts from the Faculty of Animal Science, discussing topics such as environmental control for tropical livestock and poultry farming, resource utilization of waste, development of smart agricultural equipment, and the transition to cage-free layer farming. Consensus was reached on joint training models, curriculum alignment, credit recognition, and degree awarding standards. Teachers and students from both universities also delivered academic presentations. Chinese professors gave special reports on stacked cage systems for layers, the current status of dairy cattle breeding in China, and innovations in broiler and layer production and breeding technologies. Graduate students from both sides discussed frontier topics including robotic vision, molecular mechanisms of functional decline in chicken tissues, and the use of plant extracts to reduce rumen methane. In Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province, the delegation met with the mayor and deputy mayor for in-depth exchanges on livestock industry upgrading, construction of agricultural product deep-processing parks, and investment attraction policies.
The delegation introduced the proposed large-scale pig and broiler farming projects, as well as plans for agricultural research and third-party testing laboratory construction, which received high recognition from the city government. The mayor stated that Singkawang is committed to building an agricultural research center for West Kalimantan Province and will fully support the implementation of these projects, hoping to introduce advanced Chinese technology to improve local agricultural quality and farmers' welfare. The head of the China Alumni Enterprise Overseas Investment Industry Platform in Indonesia said that, using the model of "science and technology backyard + animal science alumni industry implementation," they will integrate China Agricultural University's technical advantages with alumni enterprises' capital market resources to build a comprehensive agricultural industry platform in Singkawang that combines technology R&D, talent training, and industry demonstration. This visit consolidated the academic ties between China Agricultural University and mainstream Indonesian agricultural universities, built a bridge for industrial cooperation between local governments and Chinese alumni enterprises, and contributed to serving the Belt and Road Initiative and building a China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
