The Minister of Industry has issued a new regulation mandating the implementation of Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for 16 industrial products, aiming to provide quality assurance to the public. The regulation, included in the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) plan, governs the conformity assessment process, which includes inspection and testing of products that have a significant impact on safety, security, health, and the environment. This is a crucial tool to ensure that industrially manufactured products meet established standards. To support the implementation of the 16 regulations, a responsible party has been appointed. A total of 20 Product Certification Bodies (LSPro) and 28 testing laboratories, as Conformity Assessment Bodies (LPK), have stated that LPK plays an important role in ensuring that products circulating in the market comply with applicable requirements. Additionally, the Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry stated that the 16 new ministerial regulations aim to regulate products such as prestressed steel wire, calcium carbide, valves, stoves, LPG gas stove hoses, ceramic tiles, sling sprayers, safety shoes, sodium tripolyphosphate, aluminum sulfate, zinc oxide, and cement.
To date, the Ministry of Industry has coordinated 44 draft Permenperin, of which 16 have been issued in detail, and 28 are in the process of being issued. Meanwhile, the remaining 24 drafts are still under discussion with relevant stakeholders. The Ministry noted that there are already 5,300 SNIs for various industrial sectors, of which 130 have mandatory SNI status. Previously, the Minister of Industry emphasized that the implementation of Indonesian National Standards (SNI) must be used as a tool to control imports. Therefore, he requested the Industrial Standards Supervisory Officer (PPSI), who is authorized under Ministry of Industry Regulation No. 1 of 2022 on SNI Implementation, to supervise the implementation of this regulation.
