The government established KEK to accelerate equitable national development, believing that developing SEZs in various regions helps foster new, highly competitive economic growth centers. The KEK policy is also considered crucial for increasing investment, thereby contributing to regional equitable development. As of the first half of 2024, a total of 22 SEZs have achieved positive results, with cumulative investment reaching IDR 205.2 trillion. The following is the list of SEZs as of October 9, 2024: Banten International Education, Technology and Health SEZ, located in Tangerang, Banten, focuses on education and international health services, leveraging digital technology. Covering 59.68 hectares, its investment target upon full operation is IDR 18.8 trillion, with a capacity to employ 13,446 workers. It is planned to become an international education center operated in partnership with Monash University, one of the world's top universities; Batam International Health Tourism SEZ was established in October 2024, with a target investment of IDR 6.91 trillion and an expected workforce of 105,406. India's Apollo Hospital is the main investor, committed to building international-standard medical services to boost medical tourism, aiming for completion and operation by 2026, potentially saving up to IDR 500 billion in foreign exchange; Arun Lhokseumawe SEZ in Aceh Province covers approximately 2,662 hectares and has been operational since December 14, 2018. Its main activities include energy industry, petrochemical and other chemical industries, palm oil processing, timber processing, and logistics; Sei Mangkei SEZ in North Sumatra Province covers 2,002 hectares and falls under industry and tourism, with main activities including palm oil processing, rubber processing, tourism, and logistics.

This 30-hectare area is an industrial SEZ designed specifically for aircraft maintenance and repair industries; KEK Galang Batang covers approximately 2,333 hectares and began operations on December 8, 2018. It is an industrial SEZ, preparing to carry out main activities in the form of bauxite processing and logistics; KEK Kendal in Central Java Province officially commenced operations in May 2021. Covering 1,000 hectares, it is an industrial SEZ. The park hosts multiple main activities, including textile and garment industry, furniture and game equipment industry, food and beverage industry, automotive industry, electronics industry, and logistics; KEK Gresik in East Java Province, with 2,167 hectares classified as an industrial sector, began operations in November 2022.
