Indonesia extends continuous stay for foreigners

印尼延长外国人的连续停留时间

Indonesia has updated its travel visa regulations so that multiple-entry visa holders can stay in the country for up to 180 consecutive days without having to leave the country. This policy, which includes two 60-day extensions, provides greater flexibility for tourists, business professionals and remote workers, and enhances Indonesia's attractiveness as a long-term travel destination. Multiple-entry visas are still valid for one year from issuance, and even though they are valid for 180 days, travelers need to plan their trips according to the one-year validity period. For some visa categories, applicants will be required to visit the local immigration office for an extension, which may involve document verification, biometric data collection and an interview (in case of inconsistencies in the application). Business travel, internships, equipment installation, and other professional purposes usually require in-person travel; leisure travel or family visits may not require in-person travel, depending on local immigration policy. This policy has significant implications for digital nomads, remote workers, retirees and business travelers. The cities, represented by Bali and Jakarta, continue to become more attractive to long-term travelers. Simplified visa requirements have reduced travel impediments, and businesspeople can more easily conduct short-term assignments or training locally without having to enter and exit the country frequently. Before applying for an extension, it is important to confirm that the visa category you hold is eligible for the new extension; initiate the application at least 7-10 days in advance to avoid overstaying issues; have all the supporting documents required for work or skilled travel; and consider utilizing an accredited local visa consultant in Indonesia to complete the extension process efficiently.
