Chinese car brands buck growth trend in Indonesia in April

In April 2025, the Indonesian automotive market experienced a significant decline in both wholesale and retail sales, with wholesale sales down 27.81 TP3T YoY and retail sales down 25.51 TP3T YoY.Sales of most mainstream car brands declined, such as Toyota, Daihatsu and Honda, while sales of Chinese brands BYD and Chery bucked the trend.In wholesale sales, BYD moves up to #5, ahead of Hyundai; Chery moves up to #8, ahead of Hyundai. Hyundai's wholesale sales of 1,607 units trailed BYD's 3,496 and Chery's 1,620, while in retail sales, BYD came in at No. 6, Hyundai No. 7 and Chery No. 9. Hyundai's retail sales were 1,703, BYD's 3,531 and Chery's 1,549. Hyundai currently sells a wide range of models in Indonesia with 11 models covering gasoline, hybrid and electric versions, including Venue, Stargazer, etc., while BYD currently offers 5 models, all of which are electric, namely M6, Sealion 7, etc., and Chery has 8 models, such as the Tiggo Cross and Tiggo 8.
