French mining company expands nickel operations in Indonesia

French mining company Eramet targets 42 million tons of production in 2025(32 million tons of original plan + 10 million tons of new quota)which30 million tons of high-grade nickel (rottenstone ore)The company's main business is the supply of 27 million tons to the local NPI smelter and 3 million tons to Eramet's own smelter;12 million tons of low grade nickel (limonite)The entire supply is for High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) projects.

The project's partners include France's Eramet, China's Qingshan Holdings, and Indonesia's Antam, and the base is located at the Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in North Maluku province.Reserve life of 22 years(measured at current capacity). Ministry of Energy and Mines special approval for 10 million tons of additional mining quotas(limonite exclusively for HPAL).Government promotion of high value-added processing (HPAL produces battery-grade nickel sulfate).

The short-term target for capacity planning is 42 million tons by 2025, which may be raised to 60 million tons per year by 2027-2028(subject to government approval)HPAL project converts limonite into EV battery material; Eramet controls global 12% nickel resource(IWIP accounts for 401 TP3T of its total reserves).Green Mountain provides smelting technology and Antam guarantees localized operations.
