Indonesia plans six new special economic zones
The Ministry of Economic Coordination (MEC) has announced plans to add six new special economic zones (KEK), including a special economic zone for the halal industry in Surabaya, East Java.Highlights includeKEK Sidoarjo asGlobal Halal Industry Hub, which will integrate the entire industry chain from raw materials to finished products.
The existing 25 KEKs have attracted294.4 trillion guilders investedCreate187,000 jobs.The Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Coordination stated that the new KEK willUpgrading Indonesia's position in global value chains.It is particularly optimistic about the development potential of the halal industry and the new energy vehicle sector.The project layout is regionally balanced, with 7 located in Java and 18 in the outer islands.
