Indonesian investment agency Danantara to invest in Vale nickel processing project

Danantara, Indonesia's national investment management agency, is considering investing in three high-pressure acid leaching (HPAL) smelter projects at PT Vale Indonesia (INCO).These projects are located in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi, Morowali, Central Sulawesi, and Sorowako, South Sulawesi, and focus on the production of raw materials for electric vehicle batteries.

Of these, the Pomalaa project has been linked toHuayou Cobalt (mining company)Working with Ford to improve the quality of the project by drawing on the experience of existing smelters, Vale Indonesia is open to third-party investors, and the company's president says these HPAL projects are competitive in the Indonesian nickel industry.

The company's chief program officer confirmed that preliminary talks with Danantara are underway, but the exact percentage of investment has not yet been determined.The move will strengthen Indonesia's position in the electric vehicle battery supply chain while attracting more international investors to nickel resource development.
