Indonesia's Data Center Industry Rapidly Growing Capacity Surges 52%
Speaking at the FEKDI & IFSE event in Jakarta recently, the Minister of Communications and Information said that Indonesia has made significant progress in building data centers, with 180 data centers of different sizes now operating across the country, eight of which are at the highest standard of Tier 4 and three focusing on artificial intelligence technology.
Total data center capacity grew 52% from 190 MW to 290 MW in one year, showing strong confidence of global companies in the Indonesian market. The minister revealed that he was recently invited to officiate the inauguration of data centers for a number of domestic and international companies, including PT DCI Indonesia, Microsoft, Google and Amazon Cloud Services (AWS).
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development pointed out the need to build data centers in remote areas (3T areas) and emphasized the huge demand for electricity and water resources for AI data centers. He said that as an archipelagic country, Indonesia needs to improve its logistics infrastructure by land, sea, and air to support the construction of a sustainable system, and that the relevant ministries are coordinating and promoting this on a daily basis.
