To continue implementing the "Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Building a China-Indonesia Medicinal Plant Protection, Research and Innovation Base" witnessed by the heads of state of China and Indonesia, and to promote scientific research, standards, and industrial cooperation with Indonesia in the fields of medicinal plants and traditional medicine, a seminar on strengthening practical cooperation between China and Indonesia in medicinal plants and traditional medicine was recently held in Haikou. The Vice Chairman of the China Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President of PT Etana Biopharmaceuticals (ETANA) Indonesia, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, Deputy Director of Haikou National High-tech Zone, Director of the Hainan Branch of the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, along with heads of relevant units and enterprise representatives from China and Indonesia, attended the seminar.
The seminar conducted in-depth research on topics such as cooperation between China and Indonesia in biodiversity resources, medicinal plants and traditional medicine, market development of Indonesian specialty medicinal plants, building an import-export platform for China-Indonesia medicinal plant cooperation, and standard alignment and capacity building. It discussed the first batch of priority medicinal plants for cooperation and reached consensus on in-country processing of medicinal plants in Indonesia and export of Chinese pharmaceuticals to Indonesia. Participants expressed hope to jointly build a diversified cooperation platform, promote the establishment of long-term cooperation mechanisms among research institutes, industrial parks, and enterprises of the two countries, forming a synergistic development pattern of "research + industry + trade".
The International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, as the Chinese lead coordinating unit for jointly building the China-Indonesia Medicinal Plant Protection, Research and Innovation Base, will continue to play a bridging role under the guidance of the International Department of the NDRC, promoting industrialized and scaled cooperation in medicinal plants and traditional medicine between China and Indonesia, contributing to economic and social development and improving the health and well-being of the people.
