Indonesian Hakka Association
Perhimpunan Hakka Indonesia Sejahtera was established in 1999 as the first Chinese legal association approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Indonesia. 2008, in order to better unite the Hakka folks all over Indonesia and to strengthen the liaison of Hakka associations in different regions, 20 regional Hakka associations in Indonesia resolved to establish the General Association of Hakka (GAKK). The then President Susilo received the leaders of 30 Hakka associations under the Indonesian Hakka Federation on two separate occasions and highly praised the Hakka people of Indonesia, calling on the Chinese to join hands with all nationalities to build the country. Over the years, the Association has been adhering to the fine tradition of keeping good relations with the townships, uniting the villagers, patriotism and love for the countryside, being enthusiastic about public welfare, actively developing the Chinese language education, founding the Chongde trilingual school, and the Association's business has been flourishing and famous at home and abroad.
In 2014, the General Association of Indonesian Hakka planned to build the first Indonesian Hakka Museum reflecting the history and culture of Indonesian Hakka people, the then President Susilo attended the opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the former President Joko visited the museum in 2018 and carried out fellowship and pleading activities with the Association's leaders and townspeople. Headquartered in Jakarta, the Association has grown to more than 60 chapters and branches. In recent years, it has promoted China-India civil friendship and cooperation by organizing cultural exchange activities.
