President Jokowi is scheduled to inaugurate the Alumina Smelter (SGAR) project in Mempawah, West Kalimantan Province in September 2024. This was conveyed by INALUM's Business Development Director when Jokowi visited the MIND ID booth at the 2024 Environment, Climate, Forestry, and New Renewable Energy (LIKE) Festival held at the Jakarta Convention Center. They invited President Jokowi to the SGAR Mempawah for the ceremony, so they want to inject bauxite into the plant. PT Bauxit Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) or the Mempawah project is the result of a consortium between PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum), which focuses on developing infrastructure and increasing the added value of mineral commodities in the Mempawah area. MIND ID always ensures that the implementation of strategic projects follows planned standards and schedules, and always opens space for project optimization and acceleration. He also expressed gratitude to the government for its support to the BUMN Mining Holding Company in increasing the mining value of the country's mineral and coal commodities.
They thanked President Jokowi for visiting the MIND ID Group booth during the 2024 LIKE Festival, which certainly provided them with motivation, especially in carrying out their mission to provide the national mining industry ecosystem. Jokowi previously inspected the Mempawah SGAR project in March, but the project's progress was still slow. By the next visit in September, the Mempawah SGAR project is expected to have reached 97% completion. The project is scheduled to enter the Commercial Operation Date (COD) phase in February 2025, while the processing of bauxite into alumina can be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2024. Once operational, the Mempawah smelter will be able to produce 1 million tons of alumina per year, with an estimated annual bauxite raw material requirement of 3.3 million tons. The project is divided into two phases with an investment of approximately US$1.7 billion. On the other hand, at the 2024 LIKE Festival held from August 8 to 11, MIND ID explained how to optimize water resource management in a sustainable manner to support the company's operational activities.
