Indonesian electric motorcycle exports have entered Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia and Cambodia. The association outlined last week the national electric motorcycle industry's plan to seize export opportunities, targeting other Southeast Asian countries, Thailand, and the African market, with continued expansion into African nations. They have agreed on the industry's presence, and now it has started flowing to Malaysia and Cambodia, followed by other potential markets, namely Thailand, Vietnam, and then Africa. To export electric motorcycles on a large scale, several Indonesian electric motorcycle manufacturers have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with multiple partners. Companies involved in the agreement include United E-Motor, which is working with Malaysia, and PT KK Brothers Energi, which plans to export to Cambodia. They currently only have an MoU that has not yet been realized, as they aim to meet the requirements set by their target import destinations. For the domestic market, with the help of the government subsidy program, sales have shown a positive trend, with approximately 60,000 electric motorcycles absorbed domestically. Domestic production capacity exceeds this, which is why they are targeting a continuation of the subsidy program next year, requesting more than 200,000 quotas.
They may remain optimistic, but if they do their best, the situation might exceed expectations—it solely depends on the government's budget capacity. All electric motorcycle subsidy quotas for 2024 have been fully absorbed. According to Sisapira data, the remaining budget allocation has been used up. From January to September 2024, electric motorcycle subsidies were distributed to 30,607 electric motorcycles through manufacturers or dealers designated by the government. The number of motorcycles subsidized to the public this year reached 60,857 units, bringing the total electric motorcycle subsidies distributed to the public since 2023 to 72,389 units. Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly stated that under the leadership of President-elect Prabowo, the next government must continue to provide protection and certainty for the development of the electric motorcycle industry market. As a result, multiple countries have made various requests for our electric motorcycles, which clearly have great potential.
