Indonesia plans to provide electricity to un-electrified households

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said there are currently about 780,000 households without electricity in Indonesia, spread across 10,068 remote villages. The government plans to gradually electrify these households from 2025-2029 through the "Village Electricity" program of the Indonesian National Electricity Company (PLN). To achieve this goal, the government will build power plants with an installed capacity of 394 megawatts, which will provide electricity connections to about 780,000 households. To implement the program, the government is expected to need an investment budget of about 50 trillion dong for the next five years. He said power supply is not only about demand, but also an important initiative to achieve equity and justice in the region, which should be available from Aceh to Papua. In addition, the provision of electricity to un-electrified areas also creates opportunities for investors to work with the government to achieve equitable energy development. The "Village Power" program was commissioned by the central government to PLN to provide electricity to all areas, including remote, frontier and marginal areas. By the end of 2024, 83,693 villages and communities had access to electricity.
