China, Japan interested in competing for Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project

The Indonesian government plans to extend the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB/Whoosh) to Surabaya in order to enhance transportation mobility and efficiency in Java,...The program was directed by President Prabowo and advanced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Coordination.
Both China and Japan have made offers of cooperation on the project. Japan has proposed the operation of a semi-speed train with a number of conditions; China has not yet defined the specific requirements of the project.The Government of Indonesia needs to study its possible options for a northern, central or southern route.The project is larger than the Jakarta-Bandung HSR and faces major challenges such as land acquisition and route planning, and is still in the study phase.
