The Indonesian government plans to extend the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail (KCJB/Whoosh) to Surabaya to improve traffic mobility and efficiency on Java Island, The plan was instructed by President Prabowo and is being advanced by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development. Both China and Japan have proposed cooperation for the project. Japan proposed operating semi-high-speed trains and put forward some conditions; China has not yet clarified specific project requirements. The Indonesian government needs to study the possible route options: the northern line, central line, or southern line. This project is larger than the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail and faces major challenges such as land acquisition and route planning. It is currently still in the research phase.
