The Jepara regency government in Central Java has signed a cooperation agreement with China's Zhejiang Jinjiang Environmental Group, which plans to convert household waste into renewable energy from 2026.The project aims to solve the problem of overloaded local landfills and promote a green economy.
The project utilizes Chinese technology to convert residual waste with no economic value into energy, achieving a 100% waste utilization rate;Groups such as housewives can earn additional income by separating waste, while recyclables such as plastics and metals are still disposed of by the residents themselves; Jepara can also be supported to create an "environmental demonstration zone" to revolutionize the existing landfill model.County Commissioner Jepara said the partnership will significantly reduce pressure on the landfill.DEP pointed out that previously waste was only disposed of in landfills and the new project would create circular economic value. This project is in line with the Indonesian government's national strategy of "33,000 tons of plastic waste to energy by 2025".
