On October 25, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia held a symposium to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration.Ambassador Wang Lutong delivered a keynote speech announcing the decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China to establish October 25 as the "Anniversary of Taiwan's Restoration".The establishment of this anniversary commemorates the return of Taiwan to the motherland in 1945, washing away the humiliation of China's invasion in modern times.
It also recognizes the contribution of Taiwan compatriots in the resistance against Japanese colonial rule, and emphasizes that theCairo DeclarationThe Potsdam Proclamation and other international legal documents recognized China's sovereignty over Taiwan. He pointed out that United Nations General Assembly resolution 2758 had made it clear that the People's Republic of China was the sole legitimate representative of Taiwan and that Taiwan's official title in the United Nations was "Taiwan Province of China".
The Ambassador criticized the DPP authorities for threatening peace in the Taiwan Straits by "relying on the outside world for independence" and reiterated that the realization of the reunification of the motherland is the firm goal of the CPC and the Chinese people, citing the statement by the national leader that "the issue of Taiwan will certainly be resolved with the rejuvenation of the nation". He also hoped that Indonesian compatriots would play a bridging role in telling the international community about the history of Taiwan's restoration and in building a consensus against independence and for unification.
