Indonesia has set a daily crude oil and natural gas production target of 610,000 barrels in the 2026 State Budget, an increase from the 605,000 barrels per day target set in the 2025 budget. The government has also proposed a long-term plan to gradually increase production over the next few years, aiming to achieve a target of 1 million barrels per day by 2030. The Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that to achieve this long-term target, Indonesia needs to add an average of 100,000 barrels of daily production each year, but achieving this goal is not easy and requires overcoming many challenges.
Speaking at the Indonesia Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Agency Business Support Coordination Meeting held in Bogor Regency, he stated that the government is committed to gradually increasing oil and gas production to ensure the 2030 target is successfully met. To boost production, he emphasized that all oil and gas exploration activities and optimization of existing well capacities must be coordinated with the Indonesia Upstream Oil and Gas Special Regulatory Agency. In particular, various issues arising during actual extraction require enhanced collaboration among relevant departments to ensure all efforts achieve the desired results.
Additionally, the government is actively promoting optimization of community-owned oil wells. He revealed that, based on the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation, the government, in collaboration with local governments, has completed the mapping and registration of approximately 45,000 community-owned oil wells in several regions. The regulation outlines the legalization mechanism for community-owned oil wells, which are primarily operated under two models: cooperatives and local state-owned enterprises, aiming to unlock their production potential through standardized management.
