The Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry, also Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, recently revealed on his personal Instagram account that he had received a delegation from China's Tsingshan Group. He stated that Indonesia and Tsingshan Group have established a long-term cooperation in the nickel-based industry and domestic mineral downstreaming. The meeting was held in early January 2026. He discussed several issues with Tsingshan Group's Chairman of External Affairs and Directors of Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park, focusing on investment sustainability, deepening industrial added value, and the development direction of industrial parks, aiming to align relevant projects with Indonesia's long-term development vision. According to publicly available information, Tsingshan Holding Group is a Chinese private enterprise focusing on stainless steel and nickel industry, founded in 1988 in Wenzhou, and officially entered Indonesia's nickel industry in 2009. The group has established several core enterprises in Indonesia: one is Weda Bay Nickel Company, a joint venture between Tsingshan Group (holding 51.3%), French company Eramet (holding 37.8%), and Indonesian company PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) (holding 10%). Another is Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel Company located in the Morowali Industrial Park in Central Sulawesi, which is mainly engaged in metal mineral processing and stainless steel production. Its shareholders include Tsingshan Holding, Qingdao Qingtuo Group and other Chinese enterprises, while PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park holds 10% of the shares, being the only local Indonesian shareholder. In addition, Tsingshan Group also operates Indonesia Guang Ching Nickel & Stainless Steel Company, Sulawesi Mining Investment Company, and several other subsidiaries in the same field within the Morowali park.
