It is a National Strategic Project of Indonesia, using the RKEF process, with an annual production capacity of 1.9 million tons of nickel pig iron, and supporting production of ferronickel alloy. It once signed a cooperation agreement with Indonesian state-owned mining group PT Aneka Tambang (Antam). The company was originally owned by Chinese businessmen and affiliated with Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry. Later, the parent company Jiangsu Delong faced domestic financial crisis and capital chain rupture, dragging down the Indonesian smelter's operations, compounded by persistent declines in nickel prices, increasing the company's debt pressure. Subsequently, Zheshang Zhongtuo acquired 75% of GNI's shares held by Jiangsu Delong, and plans to jointly inject capital with Jinhai Stainless Steel to revitalize the project.
