Chinese automaker BYD has acknowledged that it has begun reviewing its long-term roadmap for business development in Indonesia. BYD Auto Indonesia's Marketing and Communications Director stated that this development includes providing charging station facilities in public places, ultimately supporting the use of electric vehicles as daily transportation. Regarding public charging facilities for EVs, BYD is reviewing its long-term development roadmap, considering that this also involves investment and certain procedures in other aspects. Given that BYD only started delivering vehicles to consumers in the past two months, when deciding on long-term plans, the company will provide wall chargers for consumers so they can charge at home, eliminating the need to search for public EV charging stations (SPKLU) for daily use. As part of its short-term strategy, they also offer free installation directly at customers' homes. In addition, most of their showrooms are equipped with 2-4 DC fast chargers in the parking lots, a facility available for free use by any brand. Previously, PT Hyundai Motor Indonesia (HMID) decided to restrict its public charging facilities (SPKLU) to Hyundai brand only starting August 2024, a move aimed at protecting the use of SPKLU facilities for Hyundai EV users amid a surge of EV brands in Indonesia. Hyundai has been the most active automaker in building charging station facilities in Indonesia since 2022, with nearly 300 SPKLU units under its name. The government requires them to create special infrastructure for their own brand, and Hyundai has sold over 10,000 EVs—now 11,000—so they are prioritizing Hyundai consumers.
