Sichuan Tianfu Xinchuang Group recently announced that it will develop an alumina project in Central Kalimantan through its newly established subsidiary, PT Progressive Indonesia Alumina (PIA). The group confirmed in its latest corporate announcement that PIA was registered as a special purpose entity in 2024, aiming to advance the group's layout in Indonesia's downstream mineral sector. The project is located in the town of Sampit, Central Kalimantan. According to the announcement, Phase I will build a smelter-grade alumina plant with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, supported by logistics, energy, and factory infrastructure networks. The total investment for the project is expected to exceed US$540 million (approximately RMB 3.97 billion). Under the plan, the alumina plant will establish a vertically integrated industrial chain from bauxite mining to refining production. Once operational, the project is expected to support Indonesia's national goal of reducing dependence on bauxite exports and building a domestic value-added mineral ecosystem. Founded in 2003, Sichuan Tianfu Xinchuang Group operates in metallurgy, oil and gas drilling, and lithium battery materials, with annual revenue of nearly US$1 billion and over 2,000 employees globally. This alumina project marks its first foray into Indonesia's mineral resource deep processing sector.
