Large Number of Chinese Workers from Chinese Enterprises at Risk of Deportation

Based on the directive of the Director General of Immigration, the Bekasi Immigration Office conducted joint inspections on multiple foreign-invested enterprises within its jurisdiction to monitor foreign workers, maintain national security and stability, and enhance public trust in immigration authorities. A local South Korean automotive company employed 52 South Korean employees, all holding valid Limited Stay Permits (ITAS), with no immigration violations found. Another Chinese-invested automotive company employed 19 Chinese employees, 18 of whom held ITAS issued by the local immigration office, and one held ITAS issued by the South Jakarta Immigration Office. However, issues were identified: the registered positions on the employees' ITAS did not match their actual positions—for example, one person registered as a Production Consultant was actually a Manufacturing Integration Manager. Internal company documents showed irregularities, with some foreign employees' work locations inconsistent with the records in the Foreign Worker Utilization Plan (RPTKA). Meanwhile, five Chinese employees working at a local Chinese-invested photovoltaic company were unable to provide their RPTKA and proof of residence, and one claimed to reside in a local apartment. The Immigration Office will conduct an in-depth investigation into these findings. If violations are confirmed, immigration administrative measures will be taken in accordance with regulations, and the deportation of violators is not excluded. This operation is not merely routine administrative work but a crucial step in national law enforcement, maintaining legal certainty, and detecting potential threats from foreign nationals, demonstrating the Immigration Directorate General's commitment to strengthening immigration supervision and upholding territorial legal integrity.

Indonesian Textile Production Factory Permanently Closed

Indonesian textile company PT Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk (POLY) announced the permanent closure of its factory in Karawang. The chemical and fiber production units at the factory had been suspended since November 1, 2024, and this closure is now permanent. Reasons for the closure include weak demand for industrial products in domestic and international markets, global overcapacity, rising tariffs on exports to the United States, and increasing raw material prices; unstable domestic policies such as the implementation of anti-dumping duties and revisions to import regulations that did not meet expectations; the factory being idle for more than 6 months, making equipment restart technically and commercially infeasible with high maintenance costs; and debt restructuring negotiations with the Ministry of Finance taking longer than expected without a final agreement reached. In the short term, this will lead to a decline in sales revenue in 2025 and beyond, requiring the company to revise its financial forecasts. The company's focus is shifting to the Kaliwungu factory, with plans to adjust product mix and supporting resources; continuing debt restructuring efforts, seeking agreements with creditors and investors to secure funding for capacity improvement; and calling on relevant parties and stakeholders to provide support and cooperation to ensure the long-term operation of the enterprise.

Tariff Rates on Imports from ASEAN Countries Imposed by the United States

U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a new import tariff policy, effective from August 1, 2025, affecting 14 countries, including all ASEAN nations. This policy is part of his "retaliatory tariff" strategy aimed at reducing the U.S. trade deficit, with tariffs subject to adjustment based on each country's bilateral relations with the United States. Vietnam's rate was reduced from the originally planned 46% to 20%, and it also agreed to impose a 40% tariff on products from third countries (such as China) transshipped through Vietnam to the U.S. Main exports include electronics, textiles, footwear, and agricultural products, with a trade deficit of $123.5 billion.
