Recently, a large number of Chinese cars have entered the Indonesian market, with many new brands from China competing to sell their products, including battery-based electric, hybrid, or internal combustion engine vehicles.The latest is the GAC Aion Y Plus, an electric vehicle from China entering Indonesia through a partnership with Indomobil Group. This electric crossover was officially launched in June 2024. Although there is no information yet on the order numbers within approximately three months of the Aion Y Plus's official sales in Indonesia, or the buyers of the vehicle, 600 Chinese electric vehicles have arrived at Indonesian ports. The CEO of Aion Indonesia stated that the entire delivery process clearly demonstrates Aion's commitment to meeting consumer expectations, especially in Indonesia. The Aion Y Plus Exclusive model is priced at IDR 415 million, and the Premium model at IDR 475 million, making this new electric vehicle cheaper than competitors such as the BYD Atto 3, priced at IDR 500 million, or the Chery Omoda E5. This crossover EV features a futuristic design, with its most striking element being the wing-shaped main headlights, also known as angel wing big eyes, and the skyline through-type taillights. In terms of dimensions, the EV measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, meaning its size is comparable to standard versions of the Chery Omoda E5 and BYD Atto 3.
In terms of safety features, this electric vehicle, still imported from China, is equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), including 6 advanced functions that can read driver behavior, road markings, and objects. Supported by a 360-degree camera, parking becomes easier for drivers. Inside, there are 32-color ambient lights that change color according to the music rhythm of the entertainment system, and a panoramic sunroof adds a luxurious impression. The Aion Y Plus also features voice command functions, as well as remote commands and navigation system via the internet. A unique feature is that the front seats can be flattened 180 degrees like a large mattress. The embedded battery is called Magazine 2.0, with the Exclusive version having a capacity of 50.66 kWh and a range of 410 km. The Premium model has a larger capacity of 63.2 kWh and a range of 490 km. The battery is equipped with a cooling system, and the charging port supports one-way power, i.e., DC power in CCS2 format.
