The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the government is vigorously developing solar-based renewable energy, planning to expand from large-scale rooftop solar projects to floating solar projects. The Director General of New Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that a strategic plan has been formulated and foreign investors are invited to participate in the development of floating solar projects. Indonesia's numerous dams provide potential sites for floating solar projects, with a target of adding 14GW of floating solar power generation capacity to boost the domestic solar industry. The floating solar project already in operation in Indonesia is the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant in West Java, which has been operating since November 2023 with a capacity of 192 MW peak (MWp), providing clean energy to approximately 50,000 households and reducing 214,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. Indonesia's state electricity company, in cooperation with a new energy enterprise from the UAE, signed an agreement on April 8, 2025 in Abu Dhabi to expand the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant and explore other floating solar projects in Indonesia. The memorandum of understanding signed by both parties covers the exploration of project development potential at the Jatigede Reservoir in Sumedang Regency, West Java.
