Indonesia plans to export rice to Malaysia

印尼计划向马来西亚出口大米

Indonesia is ready to export rice to Malaysia after domestic stocks are deemed safe, and President Prabowo has ordered the program to move forward.Indonesia's plan to export rice to Malaysia is becoming increasingly firm, with the Deputy Agriculture Minister saying that President Prabowo has instructed that the program be pushed forward in accordance with existing mechanisms.

He has met directly with the Malaysian businessman who expressed the need to import rice from Indonesia, emphasizing the Government's readiness to carry out the export mandate as directed by the President. It is said that Malaysia needs to import 2,000 tons of rice per month from Indonesia, however the final decision is still pending further action from the Malaysian side. He also stated that this export initiative would not affect the domestic supply of rice, as the decision was currently in the hands of Malaysia, while Indonesia had been maintaining the stability of its national food reserves.
Earlier, special staff of the Ministry of Agriculture also emphasized that exports would be made only if the country's needs were secured and rice stocks were sufficient. The government's rice stockpile currently stands at 3.5 million tons and is expected to exceed 4 million tons. Domestic rice production is also seen as continuing to grow, supporting future export potential. The Malaysian government has even made a formal request to Indonesia to supply rice, however shipments will only be made if the situation in the country really stabilizes, possibly by the end of this year.
