BAIC officially assembles cars locally in Indonesia

北汽正式在印尼本土组装汽车

Beijing Automotive BAIC Indonesia, through HIM's plant in Purwakarta, West Java, is launching the locally-assembled BJ40 Plus model, which was previously introduced from China as a full import. The launch, led by PT JIO, marks the official opening of the brand's local assembly business. To ensure that the assembly process is up to standard, the brand dispatched 7 technicians from PT JDI and PT HIM to BAIC's off-road dedicated factory in Beijing, China for two weeks of learning and process analysis. Meanwhile, BAIC International sent 6 technical experts (including 2 quality control experts) to the Indonesian factory for 1 month to ensure that the technology transfer and assembly quality meet international standards. The Director General of the Metal Machinery Transportation and Electronics Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry said that the local assembly of the BJ40 Plus is a testament to the development of Indonesia's automotive industry, opening up new opportunities for industry growth and supporting the government's vision to build a strong, independent and globally competitive national automotive industry. Currently adopting a full bulk assembly model, with components still coming from China, the company plans to increase the utilization rate of local components (TKDN) in the future, raising the TKDN of the BJ40 Plus to 40% within 1-2 years, and generating foreign exchange for the country through the ASEAN Export Program. The local assembly is expected to produce 800 units per month, which will create jobs, enhance the professional skills of Indonesian automotive workers and increase their international competitiveness. The locally assembled version in Jakarta is priced at Rp698 million, a price reduction of nearly Rp100 million compared to the imported version (Rp790 million), which is more competitively priced mainly due to the difference in import taxes and fees, and is targeted at a wide range of customers, including government agencies, corporations, and general consumers. The brand plans to launch the BJ30 Hybrid at the Indonesia International Motor Show in July 2025, gradually expanding the locally assembled product line to enrich consumer choices. In addition to assembly, the brand is committed to innovation and investment to promote the development of the local automotive ecosystem, and is expected to develop more customized models in Indonesia in the future to further integrate into the global industry chain.
