Indonesia's coal exports to China and India fall

印尼对中国和印度的煤炭出口下降

As of May 2025, Indonesian coal exports to China were down 151 TP3T year-on-year, and exports to India were down 71 TP3T year-on-year.The main reasons for the decline in exports include the intensification of international price competition, Russia, Mongolia, Australia and other countries of coal products in the price is more competitive, squeezing Indonesia's market share; at the same time, China's high inventory, China's coal stocks after the Spring Festival did not fall as in previous years, the demand for imports is weak, resulting in reduced reliance on Indonesian coal. The Director General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said there is no need to panic and suggested turning to explore new markets such as ASEAN. He also questioned the issue of Mongolian coal's transportation costs, arguing that its geographic disadvantage could undermine price competitiveness. The Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) confirmed the decline in exports, emphasizing price competition as the main reason.
