Chinese firm harvests 2.2 GWh energy storage order from Indonesia

Vanda RE, a joint venture between Singapore's Gurīn Energy and Gentari International Renewable Energy, recently entered into an agreement with Ningde Times, a leading global provider of battery technology and energy storage (CATL) Signing of framework supply agreements.Under the agreement, Ningde Times will supply up to 2.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of EnerX battery storage systems for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project. Located in the Riau Islands, the project will have 2 gigawatts peak (GWp) of installed solar capacity and 4.4 GWh of battery storage, and the project is compliant with Indonesia's local content requirements (TKDN). The project is part of Indonesia's partnership with Singapore to develop a green economic corridor using a solar-plus-storage model designed to provide stable and clean energy while promoting industrial development around the green energy infrastructure in the Riau Islands, and is a flagship project for Indonesia's renewable energy transition and regional energy cooperation. The batteries involved in the agreement will be produced at Ningde Times' new plant in Garajuan, West Java, which broke ground in late June and is expected to have a total capacity of 15 gigawatt hours. The partnership strengthens the project's supply chain and fuels Indonesia's ambition to become the center of the battery and renewable energy industry in Southeast Asia. It is expected to drive investment, reduce the cost of domestic renewable energy development, and enhance Indonesia's position as a strategic destination for green investment.
