Chinese pallets won't suspend imports over pork controversy

中国托盘不会因猪肉争议暂停进口

The head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) said recently thatDespite allegations that food trays imported from China may contain lard, the government will not suspend imports because domestic production capacity cannot meet demand.Domestic production capacity is only 11.6 million pallets per month, however, 80 million are needed by the end of 2025, and only 45 million can be supplied domestically.

Food trays will be imported mainly from China and the Ministry of Industry will be responsible for quality testing, the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) for checking hygiene standards, and the Halal Certification Body (BPJPH) for verifying raw material ingredients. The BGN plans to purchase domestically produced trays in the future through the national budget, prioritizing supply to remote areas.Imports are continuing, but the inspection process will be strengthened.
