Indonesian Nickel Mining Association Supports Government's Suspension of 190 Mining Company Operations

The Ministry of Energy and Mines has recently suspended the operations of 190 mining companies (including 39 nickel companies) for failing to fulfill their reclamation bond obligations (in violation of Government Regulation No. 78 of 2010).

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Nickel Mining Association (APNI) has recently declared his support for the government's efforts to reorganize the industry and guarantee fair competition for compliant companies. He also urged member companies to make up the deposit and submit a reclamation plan by the deadline, which will beReclamation complianceintegrate intoESGNational standards (environmental pillar).

The ESG standards framework includes:Environment (E)Reclamation progress, tailings management, water recycling rates;Social (S)Community Consultation Mechanisms, Labor Safety Indicators, andGovernance (G)Anti-Bribery Certification, Supply Chain Due Diligence.

The implementation path of the relevant framework isQ4 2025Use reclamation as a mandatory ESG indicator in the2026Conduct 5-10 pilot mine audits, and by the time2027Promote low-carbon nickel supply chain certification.
