The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources recently announced that the feasibility studies (FS) for 18 energy and resource downstreaming and energy security projects under BPI Danantara will be completed by December 2025. These projects have a total investment of approximately IDR 300 trillion, covering key areas such as the electric vehicle battery ecosystem.
During his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Lotte Chemical Indonesia petrochemical plant, he stated that relevant reports have been submitted to President Prabowo. Among them, the electric vehicle battery project was not previously included in the proposal submitted by the National Acceleration of Downstreaming and Energy Security Task Force to Danantara at the end of July, but has now been included in the study scope.
He emphasized that if the studies proceed smoothly, Indonesia will establish a domestic electric vehicle and battery supply chain to meet raw material needs. Danantara's CEO revealed that the team is coordinating with the Ministry of Energy to adjust project assumption parameters, with some details requiring further optimization. The original proposal included 18 projects with a total investment of USD 38.63 billion.
Projects cover areas such as minerals (e.g., aluminum smelting, coal-to-DME), agriculture, fisheries, energy transition (e.g., solar modules, bio-aviation fuel), and energy security (e.g., refineries, oil storage tanks), distributed across multiple regions nationwide. The plan aims to enhance the added value of Indonesia's resources, reduce import dependence, and simultaneously develop the new energy industry.
