Indonesian Hakka Association

Detailed Introduction

The Indonesian Hakka Association (Indonesian: Perhimpunan Hakka Indonesia Sejahtera) was established in 1999 and became the first legally recognized Chinese community organization approved by the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs. In 2008, to better unite Hakka compatriots across Indonesia and strengthen coordination among regional Hakka associations, 20 regional Hakka associations decided to form the Hakka Association of Indonesia.

The then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met twice with leaders of 30 Hakka associations under the Indonesian Hakka Association, highly commending the Indonesian Hakka community. He called on the Chinese community to work together with all ethnic groups in nation-building. Over the years, the association has upheld the fine traditions of fostering harmony among villagers, uniting compatriots, and loving the country and hometown. It has actively engaged in social welfare, promoted Chinese language education, and established the Chongde Trilingual School. Its operations have thrived, ea ing recognition both domestically and inte ationally.

In 2014, the Indonesian Hakka Association planned and built the first Indonesian Hakka Museum, reflecting the history and culture of the Indonesian Hakka people. The then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended the opening ceremony, and former President Joko Widodo visited the museum in 2018, engaging in fellowship activities with the association's leaders and compatriots. The association's headquarters is located in Jakarta and has now expanded to over 60 branches and sub-branches. In recent years, it has promoted cultural exchange activities to foster friendly cooperation between China and Indonesia.
