BYD's first factory in Subang, West Java Province, is about to start production. Construction is complete, and it has obtained three key certifications, including vehicle production standards, World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI), and domestic production facility certification (IKD). It is now qualified for domestic automobile production. Although the factory is nearly ready, BYD Indonesia's public relations and government affairs head clearly stated that the first domestically produced model has not yet been finalized. Currently, the six electric vehicle models (Seal, M6, Dolphin, Atto 3, Sealion 7, Atto 1) sold by BYD in Indonesia are all completely built-up units (CBU). According to Indonesian investment regulations, companies enjoying incentive policies must achieve local production by January 1, 2026, with production volume and technical specifications not lower than imported models, and must meet gradually increasing local content requirements (TKDN) (40% by 2026, 60% by 2027-2029, and 80% from 2030 onward). He revealed that when selecting the first model, priority will be given to models with high sales volume that can fully absorb production capacity. Currently, Atto 1 and M6 are the sales leaders in the Indonesian market, and the high-end brand Denza also performs well in its segment. However, the final decision will be announced by the manufacturing department after comprehensive evaluation.
