Foreign Enterprises Investing in New Capital Exempt from Compensation for Foreign Workers

President Joko Widodo allows businessmen to invest in the new capital (IKN) to recruit foreign workers (TKA). This regulation is governed by Government Regulation No. 29 of 2024 concerning changes in licensing attempts, business convenience, and investment facilities for enterprises within IKN. The PP requires foreign workers in IKN to be accompanied by local workers. According to Article 22 paragraph (2) of the PP, the work period for TKA is valid for 10 years and can be extended. A labor observer from the University of Indonesia stated that this regulation is the government's effort to attract investment to IKN.

Indonesia Cracks Down on Illegal Imports, Three Operations Seize Rp100 Billion in Goods

On August 19, Indonesia's Trade Minister told the media that the special task force for combating illegal imports seized illegal imported goods worth Rp20.2 billion (approx. RMB 10 million) in its third operation. Seized illegal goods include electric drills, angle grinders, mobile phones and tablets, electric pressure cookers, car washers, cables, tires, downstream plastic products, textiles, and alcoholic beverages. The seized goods lacked complete import documents such as inspection reports (LS), product registration numbers (NPB), and Indonesian National Standards (SNI), as well as after-sales service.
