Chinese brands dominate Indonesia's cell phone market in Q1

The market research firm released the top five smartphone brands in Indonesia in Q1 2025, with Xiaomi topping the list with a market share of 19.51 TP3T, followed by Transsion (17.41 TP3T), Oppo (16.51 TP3T), Samsung (161 TP3T), and Vivo (15.71 TP3T).Smartphone shipments in the quarter amounted to 8.6 million units, down from 9.1 million units in the same period a year earlier. Handsets priced below $100 (about Rp 1.6 million) grew by as much as TP3T, mainly thanks to significant discounts from numerous brands, while those priced at $100-199 (about Rp 3.2 million) declined by TP3T.The average selling price of a smartphone in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2025 was $180 (about Rp 2.9 million). Three Xiaomi phones contributed prominently, the Redmi Note 14 4G, Redmi Note 14 5G and Redmi 14C 4G. in addition the entry-level Redmi A5 was favored for its value for money, and the flagship Xiaomi 15 Series attracted high-end users thanks to its professional photographic experience and advanced technology in partnership with Leica. Xiaomi's country director for Indonesia said the success stems not only from product competitiveness, but also from a strong online and offline sales network. Indonesia's 5G cell phone market continues to grow, with 5G cell phone penetration increasing from 49% in Q1 2024 to 55% in Q1 2025, thanks to the growing popularity of 5G devices in the domestic market.
