Extension of Indonesia's Agricultural Industry Chain Could Contribute 2,600 Trillion Rupiah

The Minister of Agriculture recently introduced the export potential of Indonesia's coconut industry and plans for industrial chain extension. Indonesia's coconut plantation area reaches 2.8 million hectares. If the industrial chain is extended, exports are expected to exceed 400 trillion rupiah, with main target markets being China and India. Not limited to coconuts, cash crops such as coffee, cocoa, nutmeg, and mint can also increase export value through industrial chain extension, with an estimated overall contribution of 2,600 trillion rupiah. The plan is expected to create 1.6 million jobs within 3 years, increase farmers' income, and help strengthen the national economy. Implementation requires the involvement of the Indonesian military, leveraging its execution capability to ensure the plan is realized, prevent resource loss, achieve agricultural self-sufficiency, and reduce imports.

This phenomenon is mainly due to the US imposing import tariffs of over 30% on Chinese goods, while tariffs on Indonesian goods are only 19%, prompting Chinese companies to expand or relocate their businesses to Indonesia to avoid high tariffs. Additionally, Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia with huge consumer market potential. Its economic growth rate in the second quarter of 2025 reached 5.12%, the highest in nearly two years. With a young population structure and abundant talent and labor force, it attracts foreign investment to expand in Indonesia as soon as possible.
