The price war between Chinese car brands in the Indonesian market has intensified, with wholesale sales of Indonesian cars falling 5.5% year-on-year to 316,981 units in January-May 2025 from 335,405 units in the same period of 2024, and retail sales dropping 9.2% year-on-year to 328,852 units from 362,163 units, according to Gaikindo data.Chinese automakers have been cutting prices in the Indonesian market, ranging from several hundred thousand to nearly ten million rupiahs, showing the increasing competition between brands. Chery (Chery) Omoda E5 was first launched in February 2024 at a price of Rp 498.8 million on the road in Jakarta, then renamed Chery E5, the price dropped significantly to Rp 399.9 million, with the pure version starting at Rp 369.9 million, a price cut of nearly 100 million rupiahs; and the price of locally assembled models of the BAIC BJ40 Plus dropped from Rp 790 million for the imported complete car to Rp 698 million, a price cut of 92 million rupiahs. 698 million rupiah, a price reduction of 92 million rupiah.
